Simona Halep has mastered what is probably the most difficult first-round task at the US Open 2021. The Romanian defeated Camila Giorgi in straight sets.

Simona Halep scolded and stomped on the grand stand like in her prime. The Romanian served twice to win the match against Montreal winner Camila Giorgi, and the Italian made the comeback twice. In the tie-break, however, Giorgi made too many mistakes. Halep advanced to the second round with a 6:4 and 7:6 (3). Much to the delight of the viewers. As almost everywhere in the tennis world, the Romanian, who has recently been plagued by injuries, enjoys great support from the fans in New York City. Halep now plays against Kristina Kucova.

US Open 2021: Halep passes endurance test, Muguruza also continues

In the second hit of the US Open, Garbine Muguruza had to stretch a lot against Donna Vekic, especially at the beginning. The Spaniard, who has already won the French Open and Wimbledon in her career, won the first set 7: 6 (4). An early break in the second half seemed to pave the way to a smooth win for Muguruza, but Vekic bounced back to equalize to make it 5-5. The second set also had to be decided in a tie-break. And again Muguruza had the better end for himself, this time with 7:5. Muguruza is waiting for the winner of the game between Irina Camelia Begu and Andrea Petkovic.

The replay of the 2017 final was particularly exciting: like four years ago, Sloane Stephens prevailed against Madison Keys. Stephens won 6:3, 1:6 and 7:6 (7). The next US hit could be waiting in round two: namely, when Cori Gauff should prevail against Magda Linette.

Here is the individual tableau for women
