Veja launches new Urca sneakers from food waste

Perhaps you, too, have used the lockdown and the past few months not only to breathe through and decelerate, but also to think about how our own actions affect others and the planet on which we live.

If you have also sworn to become a little more sustainable, you should start the matter immediately. Environmentally conscious stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Joaquin Phoenix and of course Greta Thunberg lead by example. Thunberg recently accused EU politicians via Twitter that they "ignore the fact that we are facing a climate emergency and that the climate crisis has not even been treated as a crisis". It went one step further and compared the way in which humanity deals with climate change, so that it can be stuck in the middle of the ocean and "light the boat". Veja: the vegan & quot; Urca & quot; shoes are available from 10 August

Well, we're on her side. Just like the environmentally friendly French shoe brand Veja, symbolically representing the green age of fashion, favored by activist and actress Emma Watson and Meghan Markle. Since its launch in 2005, Veja has been one of the most sustainable brands on the planet, promoting the use of wild rubber, organic cotton, plant-tanned leather and outer material made of recycled plastic bottles. Well, now the founders of Veja coach Sébastien Kopp and his business partner François-Ghislain Morillion are launching a new pair of completely vegan tanned kicks on the market. Veja sneakers from waste from the food industry

The sneakers bear the name "Urca" and are a revised, vegan version of the characteristic (already quite sustainable) V-12 leather trainer of the brand. They are made from vegan maize waste leather, which comes from organic farming, i.e. It is obtained from plants and other renewable agricultural, maritime and forestry materials. They have the feel of a waxed canvas and were made to 50 percent from waste from the food industry-these are Veja & APOs; s most environmentally friendly sneakers to date. What else? They are biodegradable, so their footprint will not leave any lasting effects on the planet.
