Bananas, Mickey Mouse & Co: Reactions to Kanye West's new Yeezys

You can blame Kanye West's Yeezy designs for many things, but a lack of creativity and nondescript designs are definitely not among them. However, if you venture into unsafe waters when it comes to fashion, then amused reactions are almost inevitable - just remember the Yeezy 450 slides, which compared the Internet to chips, cheese and traditional pastries. The new Yeezy Knit RNR are no exception: the shape and color of the fresh Kanye shoes offer plenty of scope for extensive interpretations.

The Internet is reacting to the Yeezy Knit RNR

Today they were released, the new Yeezy Knit RNR in the colorway "Sulfur". As the name suggests, the sulfur-colored footwear is made entirely of knitted material. The silhouette of the shoe is a bit reminiscent of the design of the Yeezy Foam Runners, which are partly made of algae material. The design and release of the slip-ons was officially announced yesterday on Adidas' official Instagram account.

There was immediate confusion among sneaker heads and hypebeasts: should you love or hate the new design? In any case, the Knit RNR evoke completely different images in many people's minds. At the forefront: bananas! Some people suspect that the new Yeezys were inspired by the crooked, yellow tropical fruit.

Other associations go in completely different directions. A Twitter user attributes a certain Mickey Mouse swag to the new sneakers.

An extremely specific, yet apt, comparison comes from another Twitter user replying to Adidas' announcement tweet. He sees nothing more in the new Yeezy model than the blue disposable overshoes that one is used to from hospitals and doctor's offices.

Socks were also often cited as a design template. The new shoes could be ordered exclusively on Yeezy Supply today, but they were sold out in no time.

Kanye West's impact on the sneaker world

Starting with Nike, joining Adidas in 2014, the Yeezys are proof that Kanye's impact on sneaker culture shouldn't be underestimated had in recent years. Even if the reactions to the extravagant models drift in a rather mocking direction, especially at the beginning, many already suspect the hype potential behind the new Yeezy drop.

It should also not be forgotten that Kanye has helped the Adidas brand to shine again with his sneaker models. Here you can read why that is:
