All year round we report on the sports pages of the Märkische Oderzeitung about competitions that are primarily about higher - faster - further. But there are clubs in Märkisch-Oderland where sport is also practiced, although best performances are not the priority. Right from the start, however, it must be said clearly that what the women of the Action Contra Pfunde (ACP) sports group do should not be done under any circumstances to be laughed at. Anyone who has ever attended such a training session will quickly be impressed by the speed and will certainly never say again "gymnastics, that's only something for housewives." And another special feature is associated with the name ACP Strausberg. The association has now been in existence for 30 years. Don't let the name fool you. The women all have an athletic figure and Action Contra pounds actually none of them really need. Anyone who then follows such a training: It gets down to business straight away, from zero to one hundred, as the saying goes. Almost 30 active people are now training - between the ages of 24 and 64. The sports group was founded in September 1987. At that time, ten women began to train in the Steremat dining room. At that time there was even a partner company - VEB Goldpunkt, in which shoes were produced. Gymnastics was all the rage, and under Nortrud Arnold's direction, success quickly came. For example, there was a certificate in the GDR 40 relay team. From this it can be seen that the women not only trained for themselves, but also advertised their sport with performances and choreographed exercises. Performances at the Buckower Rosentage, the Strausberger Festtage or the family sports day of the BSG Goldpunkt were also high points in club life. That too was and is one of the club's approaches. It's not just about sport, it's also about attracting those who don't like sports and getting women who are in the middle of family and professional life excited about active leisure activities. There is always a great deal of fun and a sense of community. Nowhere is the sentence "Sport connects" so aptly. What has remained over the years: Everyone trains as they can and want. Since July 1, 1990, the club has been called Action Contra Pfunde. The sports group initially found a new training facility in the Strausberger Mühlenberg Hall. The family sports days in Strausberg became a nice tradition in the early 1990s - co-organized by ACP. "Women in sports" was a motto of the second day of action (1994) for girls and women on the grounds of the SEP in Strausberg. The fact that this day was a complete success, the organizer was the State Sports Association, is also thanks to ACP. The day of action is organized annually by the Brandenburg State Sports Association. The MOZ archive also contains a contribution by the former head of the club herself: "Gymnastics women also want to go to the football page." That was in December 1997 for the tenth anniversary. "Women in sports - don't shout at the top of their voices. If they have to, they can also fight ... Nothing against football. The women in gymnastics aren't gentle either, they just move without goals," she wrote and advertised "Ten years of sports and Feasts with kith and kin". At the 15th anniversary, the club was able to announce that some active members from its own ranks even acquired a license to become a trainer. So far, only one man has made it into the group. "But we are open and besides men, we would also be very happy about younger athletes," says the current head of the sports group, Dana Wolfram. Her deputy is Petra Hamann, who also holds the position of treasurer. The group has been training in the sports hall of the Anne Frank secondary school in Strausberg since 2003. Today we only talk about gymnastics. The contents are called step aerobics or sometimes yoga or aroha. The fitness dance Aroha is based on the Haka, i.e. the traditional war dance of the New Zealand Maori people. It also includes elements of the Chinese martial arts kung fu and tai chi, the latter also known as shadow boxing. One continues to deal with gymnastic trend sports such as Zumba. Nowadays, elements of yoga are more likely to be left at the end of a training session. After almost 50 minutes at high speed, relaxation exercises follow. Training times are Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gym of the Anne Frank High School in Strausberg. The club is still looking for young women who are interested in sports. "Don't worry, and we won't send anyone away either. I would like to expressly emphasize that it's not about top performance, so that pure beginners are also welcome," says Dana Wolfram. The annual fee is a moderate 60 euros. Of course, it should continue to be lively in the next few years. Outside of the sports hall, there will also continue to be joint ventures, social activities - Christmas parties, cycling tours - and meanwhile an annual active weekend at the state sports school in Lindow. They will continue to take part in sports festivals, family and self-help and other campaign days or training courses. In the club's chronicle, a second volume is now being prepared, it can also be found that there was a television appearance on the private broadcaster RTL.
