Greenwashing at Nike: The sporting goods manufacturer should shred new goods

Nike has launched a major recycling campaign - customers can send in used sneakers to be used as material for new sneakers.

Research by “Zeit” now paints a different picture: the sporting goods manufacturer in Belgium instead shreds the sneakers sent in – including completely new sports shoes.

Nike confirms that it does not shred new sports shoes, only used or defective items are recycled. The Federal Ministry for the Environment speaks of a "violation of the waste hierarchy", the competent authority must take action.
