Venice downpour and hailstorm: Dolce & Gabbana show ends in chaos

With great effort, the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana presented the designs of their exclusive men's line in Venice. But in the end the weather threw a spanner in the works.

They were forewarned: Because of an announced storm, the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana had already brought their fashion show in Venice forward. The creations of the men's line were actually supposed to be presented at 7 p.m. local time, but due to the gloomy forecasts, the show was brought forward by an hour. Nevertheless, the weather threw a spanner in the works for the two designers. At the end of the approximately 15-minute presentation, downpours set in and centimetre-sized hailstones fell on the models and the audience.

Numerous photos and videos on social networks document the storm and show how prominent guests are trying to stay dry. Actors Helen Mirren, TV star Kourtney Kardashian and musician Sean Combs were invited to the show at the Arsenal in Venice. The designers themselves had just started the final show when the hail started. The two Italians tried to protect themselves from the storm with their hands over their heads. Her models had to walk down the catwalk set up in the water in the rain.

Leni Klum modeled in Venice for Dolce & Gabbana

A journalist from the fashion magazine "Vogue" who was there describes the scenes as follows: "Around 6.23 p.m. it got serious. Until then we had followed the spectacle with half an eye on the lightning, which was close, but not close enough were to worry unduly. But then the sky tore up (...) and hailstones about an inch in diameter came pelting down. When they landed on the head, it hurt - and there were so many, that they often landed on their heads. Then the screaming started. The guests tore the pillows from their seats and used them as makeshift head protection."

The day before, Dolce & Gabbana had shown their women's collection, in which, among others, Leni Klum and the daughters of Sean Combs walked the catwalk. The weather was changeable there too. After initial sunshine, wind picked up and at the end of the show a downpour also fell.
