Inventions have changed the world: the wheel, the electric one electricity or the computer. But there are still many technical gadgets that one wishes for, but which so far only exist in Hollywood films. In our top list we have compiled eleven technical inventions that would certainly change our world.

Some of these inventions are almost real, or at least working on their practical implementation. Unfortunately, none of the cool ideas are ready and available yet. But there is one good thing about these inventions: they don't seem completely impossible to us - so we can be happy.

1. The intelligent traffic light for the impatient

Everyone has certainly been annoyed about this at some point: You are standing in your car at the traffic light and you never know how much longer it will be red. The intelligent traffic light, which shows the duration of the colors red and green, helps against this. There's already something like that for pedestrians, but it hasn't yet caught on worldwide for drivers.

2. The pen that can copy and paint any color

Last year, a Kickstarter project caused quite a stir. Inventors wanted to collect money for the ScribblePen on the crowdfunding platform and found many supporters. With the pen you should be able to first scan colors and then paint with the scanned colors. In the end, the project turned out to be a complete fake - unfortunately, because such a pen should be invented urgently.

3. Marty McFly's flying skateboard

It would be cool to glide through the streets and, of course, over water on the hovering hoverboard, like Marty McFly in "Back to the Future 2". Unfortunately, this invention hasn't been made yet, and at the moment it doesn't look as if the floating skateboard will be a big hit in the next Christmas season. There was a project on Kickstarter once, but this board only works on metal and looks rather clunky. Hendo's hoverboard isn't really suitable for everyday use either.

The Frenchman Franky Zapata set a world record in early 2016: He flew a distance of two kilometers at a height of 50 meters on a hoverboard over the Atlantic. His so-called Flyboard Air has a turbine drive and is more reminiscent of the Green Goblin's hoverboard from Spiderman than Marty McFly's flying skateboard. The video of his flight looks incredible and is authentic. The thing really exists!

4. The Dream Recorder: recording dreams, directing dreams

A look at the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter is also worthwhile here. Project Luci, exposed as a fake, was supposed to enable sleepers to direct their dreams at night without waking up. The unusual idea quickly raised around $400,000. However, the project was stopped. The makers claimed to have found an investor. A lot more money would probably come together if someone would invent a dream recorder.

5. The inverted microwave for turbo cooling

Food in the microwave closes in a few seconds heating is not magic, but reality in almost every kitchen. But what about the other way round if you want to cool something down as quickly as possible? A device that works like a microwave and cools things down quickly has not yet existed in the household. That wouldn't be so stupid for drinks, a quick sorbet in between or the overheated rice pudding.

6. Eye on the dollar sign: Contact lenses with LCD displays

There are some glasses with augmented or virtual reality functions, including the popular Google Glass. This allows important and interesting information to be displayed in the wearer's field of vision. But how about not needing the ugly and sometimes clunky nose bike at all? Scientists are researching contact lenses with a built-in display – but there are still no signs of groundbreaking success. Currently, only simple symbols can be displayed: such as the dollar sign in the eye.

7. On the display in a traffic jam: message to the person behind

If the person behind you pulls up too close or you want to say thank you because he let you on his lane has, a display in the back of the car would be very practical. There's already one, but it's really extremely simple with just a few ready-made emoji symbols or a red LED ticker. On the other hand, a display that can be controlled by smartphone with voice control for various messages or telephone numbers would be cool.

8. The smartphone you can build yourself

Actually, it already exists, and it's from Google and is called "Project Ara". But: The release is constantly being pushed back, now it should come out in 2017. The idea: You buy a cheap basic building block, which can then be upgraded with various modules to create the smartphone of your choice. There are now six module bays. The battery, processor and display are not interchangeable, at least in the developer version. The battery can even be replaced in many normal smartphones - perhaps Project Ara will be a little more modular than currently planned. With the LG G5, at least the underside with the battery can be replaced with a camera grip or a hi-fi model.

9. As if on cloud nine: The floating sofa

A fascinating concept and without question the craziest sofa of all time. Suspended by large magnets, it's like sitting on cloud nine. But the magnet would have to be quite large, which would make the piece of furniture expensive. You also have to find a way not to float off with the sofa and eventually fall to the ground once the magnet is out of range.

10. The wind, the wind - the electric child

Anyone who likes to be out and about, for example with a backpack and tent, knows the problem. Even when used sparingly, the smartphone battery will eventually run out. The solution is provided by this invention, which generates electricity where there is none. The small wind generator is called Xarius and has even won a prize. However, the clever gadget is not yet available for purchase.

11. Self-tying shoes

In "Back to the Future 2" there is not only a hoverboard, but also self-tying shoes from Nike. Now, Nike has actually developed self-tying shoes. The shoes are called "HyperAdapt 1.0" and are currently still a prototype, but they are already working. Not only do the shoes self-tie when you slip them on, but the finished product is designed to adapt to the runner's feet and running conditions in real-time as you run. But who is too lazy to tie their own shoes? Well, we can't imagine finding a good restaurant quickly without the internet either, even though people have survived without the internet for centuries. It's practical and saves time.
